Lightning
1 Blast of the Horn
All athletic activity shall be suspended immediately by the official in charge when the first sound of thunder is heard and/or the first sighting of lightning.
All participants, coaches, and spectators are to leave the field immediately and go to their vehicles or to the South entrance of Clemmons Elementary School.
Activity will be resumed once the official has determined the environment is safe regardless of the perceived location of the storm. The official in charge on the field will make the official call on when it is safe to resume activity within the first 20 minutes. If you hear ... 1 long blast = resume activity OR 3 blasts = activity canceled
Extreme Heat Related Conditions
The heat index is defined by the National Weather Service as the combination of air temperature (degrees) and relative humidity (percent). NWMPWFL will cancel activities for all organizations on days when the Heat Index is above 104. The Forsyth County Broncos will alter scheduled activities on days where the Heat Index is above 94 at the discretion of the VP of Athletics.
While on the field, heat exhaustion is a threat for participants, coaches, and spectators. Treatment for all heat related conditions involves immediately moving the person to a cool place, removing equipment and unnecessary clothing. Immediately administer fluids and elevate feet above the heart to stabilize blood pressure and circulation to the brain.
Heat Exhaustion involves:
Profuse sweating
Dizziness
Nausea
Headache
Cool, Clammy ashen skin
Treatment:
Remove unnecessary equipment and clothing
Sponge towel with cool water to rapidly cool the body
Rest in a cool place
Heat Stroke involves:
No sweating
Disoriented
Hot Red Dry Skin
A feeling of burning up
Glassy stare
Possibly unconscious
Treatment:
Contact EMS IMMEDIATELY!!!!
Remove unnecessary equipment and clothing
Rapidly cool body with ice in the armpits, neck, and groin regions
Extreme Severe Weather
3 Immediate Blasts of the Horn
For the purpose of definition, extreme severe weather will be classified as storms possibly containing hail or a tornado.
The Official in Charge will monitor weather reports during the day to determine if the threat is substantial enough to cancel scheduled activities for the day.
If conditions deteriorate while on the field, all athletic activity shall be suspended immediately by the official in charge with 3 rapid blasts of the horn.
All participants, coaches, and spectators are to leave the field immediately, proceeding to the South entrance of Clemmons Elementary. Once inside, everyone should quickly move to the gym area until notice is given that it is safe to leave the building.
Assigned Bronco Board members will help facilitate the flow of people.
The Official in Charge will make the call on when it is safe to leave the school.
